The untitled series, set for a 2019 premiere on YouTube Red, reunites a number of key auspices behind ABC’s comedy series Happy Endings — co-star Pally, creator/executive producer David Caspe, writers Daniel Libman and Matthew Libman, executive producer Jamie Tarses, studio Sony Pictures TV as well as Dustin Davis, Head of Comedy Development at YouTube Originals, who was an ABC comedy current executive working on the series.
Written/executive produced by Daniel Libman, Matthew Libman, Jordan Cahan and Caspe and exec produced by Tarses, the series’ concepts is summed up as “every rapper has a crew he can’t live without… and vice versa” and examines how long the crew can survive without being in the limelight. Pharoah is said to be playing the rapper.
Maurice “Mo” Marable (Veep) will direct the pilot and serve as co-executive producer. Ian Durney will serve as an associate producer.
“I’m thrilled to be back in business with the Happy Endings team whom I worked with at ABC,” Davis said. “I look forward to working with such an incredible cast led by Adam Pally, Sam Richardson and Jay Pharoah.”
Cahan worked on Caspe’s NBC comedy series Marry Me. The two recently teamed up for comedy Ball Street, which has a pilot order at Showtime with Sony TV, where Caspe and Cohan are under overall deals, producing.
This marks Sony TV’s second original series for YouTube Red, joining Cobra Kai, which debuts this week.
In addition to Happy Endings, Pally’s series credits include The Mindy Project and Making History. He is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment. The Office alum Richardson is co-creator, star and executive producer of the Comedy Central series Detroiters, which returns for a second season in June. His work on the YouTube series will not interfere with his duties on Detroiters should the series is renewed for a third season. Richardson, who also co-stars on HBO’s Veep, is repped by UTA and Principato-Young Entertainment. Pharoah, coming off a starring role on the Showtime series White Famous, is repped by ICM Partners. Marable is with WME and Underground.
