Fashion designer John Varvatos and Network Entertainment, the producer of the I Am documentary franchise, are launching a joint venture to create original content for TV and film focusing on the worlds of music, fashion and pop culture.
Among the first projects from the partnership will be a TV series based on Varvatos’ John Varvatos: Rock in Fashion, his 2013 book that featured his take on how rock ‘n’ roll and style have influenced his designs. No other details were provided, but the plan is to create premium content for global distribution multiple platforms, designed to feature complementary merchandising, publishing, sponsorship and special event opportunities.
Network Entertainment, founded and run by producer Derik Murray, is next up in its docu franchise with I Am MLK Jr., which bows April 4 on Paramount Network.
Varvatos worked at Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein before launching his own brand in 2000, with his love of music making his fashions particularly hot in the music biz. He founded John Varvatos Records in 2014 and co-hosts the annual Love Rocks NYC!, a benefit concert for New York-based charity God’s Love We Deliver.
