President Donald Trump did it again, dropping another controversial decision on Friday night when the news cycle dies down.

The White House tonight released a memorandum that introduces a policy to ban most transgender people from serving in the US military.

According to the document, “transgender persons with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria — individuals who the policies state may require substantial medical treatment, including medications and surgery — are disqualified from military service except under certain limited circumstances.”

The implementation of a transgender ban in the military had been blocked by multiple federal judges. The new order follows a Pentagon policy review initiated by July tweets by Trump, in which he suggested that transgender individuals would not be allowed to serve in the U.S. military “in any capacity.”
