David Spade To Star In & Produce Pilot For Comedy Central Weekly Series ‘Verified’

David Spade will executive produce and star in Verified With David Spade, which has received a pilot order at Comedy Central. The weekly comedy series will aim to skewer pop culture and news through the lens of social media, set in front of a studio audience.

The project will include in-studio bits, panel discussions and field pieces. Brad Wollack and Tom Brunelle co-created the series with Spade and will serve as shorunners/executive producers through their company, Free90 Media. Also exec producing are Brillstein Entertainment’s Alex Murray and Marc Gurvitz.

This marks Spade’s return to Comedy Central where he hosted and executive produced another weekly series, the 2005 The Showbiz Show with David Spade, which ran for three seasons.

“I’m excited to be working with Comedy Central again especially on a show like this,” Spade said. “Everyone’s on their phones looking at Instagram and all social media every day but there’s no show about it. It’s time people look up from their phones and see a show about what’s on their phones,”

Additionally, Spade and Audible have set a release date for A Polaroid Guy in a Snapchat World, the actor-comedian’s recently announced memoir about his experiences with aging. Spade will narrate the audio-only memoir, which will debut on July 19. It will center on Spade’s then and now, navigating fame, dating, social media and dealing with a friend from high school who has become his full time plus-1.

Saturday Night Live alum Spade, who recently starred on the ABC comedy series The Mayor, is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment. Wollack and Brunelle are repped by UTA and Morris Yorn.
