Former Playboy playmate Karen McDougal’s tell-all about her alleged affair with Donald Trump massaged Anderson Cooper’s ratings Thursday night.

The interview aired from 8:15-9:30 PM ET.  In that block of time, Cooper clocked 668K news-demo viewers and 2.382M total viewers. It’s a big boost compared to CNN’s prior four-week average of 379K news-demo viewers and 1.137M total viewers in the block of time.

Cooper dominated the demo in that time frame, but fell short of Fox News Channel (2.838M viewers, 585K) in overall audience. MSNBC logged 2.356M viewers, 490K of them in the 25-54 age bracket.

It’s a similar story if you look at CNN, strictly by the hour.

At 8 PM Cooper logged 2.214M viewers and 608K news demo viewers, behind FNC’s Tucker Carson ( 2.693M viewers, 572K news demo viewers) in total viewers but besting him in the demo. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes (1.951M, 397K) lagged Cooper in both metrics.
Cooper’s numbers increased from 9-10 PM: He averaged 2.295M viewers and 683K in the demo, again virtually doubling his prior four-week average. Here too Cooper edged out competitors in the demographic, but MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow (2.981M, 628K) ruled in total viewers, followed by Sean Hannity (2.919M, 591K).

McDougal apologized to First Lady Melania Trump for McDougal’s alleged affair with the then reality-TV star, saying she wouldn’t want that to happen to her; she insisted Trump was in love with her, but also said he tried to pay her for their first sexual encounter, which she said hurt her a lot.
