Mya Taylor (Tangerine) has booked a role in DietlandAMC’s 10-episode straight-to-series darkly comedic drama based on Sarai Walker’s novel, which is set for a 2018 premiere. Also, Mark Tallman (Rise) is set for a multi-episode arc on the show.

Dietland, from Marti Noxon (UnReal), Skydance TV and AMC Studios, is set against the backdrop of the beauty industry. It follows Plum Kettle (Joy Nash), an obese woman who is preparing for weight-loss surgery when her world is upturned by two rival feminist factions. Caught between old ideas and radical new extremes, Plum must decide for herself what it means to be a revolutionary as the “war of the sexes” becomes literal. Julianna Margulies, Rowena King and Adam Rothenberg also star.

Taylor will play Barbara, a newly minted member of the transgender community who resides at Verena Baptist’s Calliope House. Tallman is Jake, Verena Baptist’s other husband, a Jewish cowboy with serious handyman skills who lives at Calliope House, the feminist collective started by Verena.

Repped by ICM Partner and Avalon Management, Taylor co-starred in the 2015 film Tangerine and made history as the first transgender performer to pick up a major film acting award, at the 2016 Indie Spirit Awards. Tallman recurs on NBC’s Rise and has recurred on Time After Time and State of Affairs. He is repped by Stone Manners Salners and McGowan/Rodriguez Management.
