AwesomenessTV has picked up a second season of its popular scripted series Zac and Mia, based on A.J. Betts’ YA novel.

Starring Kian Lawley and Anne Winters, Zac and Mia is described as a moving story about two ordinary teenagers who find hope, love and courage in exceptional circumstances. In the real world, these two 17-year-olds would have little to say to each other, but in the hospital where both are undergoing treatment for cancer, the usual rules no longer apply.

The series has seen strong fan response since its premiere, and began production on Season 2 a week after its debut last month.

In season two, Zac (Lawley) is excited to get his old life back, while Mia (Winters) wrestles with hopelessness about her uncertain future and condition. As a couple, they’re now forced to navigate their budding relationship out in the real world, unprotected by the walls of the hospital. Season 2 cast also includes Kelsey Formost (Modern Family), WynterGrace Williams (This Just In), Nick Ekbatani, Tom Lenk (Transparent) and Markus Silbiger (American Horror Story).

Written by Allen Clary and directed by Jason Perlman, season 2 will premiere next year on go90.

Clary is repped by Michael Kolodny at The Kaplan Stahler Agency.
