U.S production and management firm The Cartel and Reel One Entertainment have teamed up to develop and produce 40 movies over the next three years. The two companies have partnered to finance and distribute the movies for television and theatrical release as well as international distribution.
The first two features to emerge from the pact are A Friend’s Obsession, starring Necessary Roughness’ Karissa Lee Staples and thriller Eve of Abduction.
The formal agreement deal comes after Reel One, which is currently in development with a sci-fi series based on Philip K Dick’s novella Second Variety, previously produced six movies with The Cartel including crime drama Deadly Exchange, starring Lindsay Hartley, and The Wrong Mother (pictured), which featured Las Vegas and Beverly Hills 90210 actress Vanessa Marcil. Reel One will handle worldwide distribution for the new titles.
Stan Spry, Co-Chief Executive of The Cartel, which is currently developing a series based on the life of Jack Daniel with Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, said it was excited to broaden its relationship with Reel One. “They are one of the best international distributors and partners in the business, and we look forward to continued success and growth together.”
Reel One CEO Tom Berry added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Cartel to bring these new titles to our US and international buyers. We’re seeing continued demand from broadcasters worldwide for high quality TV and theatrical movies that can attract audiences across different day-parts and this deal will allow us to further meet the needs of today’s viewers.”
