NBC has put in development legal drama J.S.I.D. from Adam Mazer (You Don’t Know Jack), Dallas Buyers Club co-writer Craig Borten, Neal Moritz’s Original Film and Sony Pictures TV, where Original Film is under an overall deal.

Written by Mazer, J.S.I.D. centers around L.A.’s elite unit of special DA’s in the Justice System’s Integrity Division who investigate and prosecute corrupt judges, politicians, cops, city officials and fellow lawyers.

Mazer executive produces with Borten and Original Films’ Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Original Film co-produces with Sony Pictures TV.

Mazer won a Primetime Emmy for outstanding writing for a miniseries, movie or dramatic special for HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack. His other writing credits include features Breach and Empire State.

Borten, who shared a best screenwriting Oscar nomination with Melisa Wallack for Dallas Buyers Club, also has a family drama about the opioid crisis set up at A+E Studios, with Dallas Buyers Club producer Rachel Winter.

This is the latest legal drama buy for NBC this development cycle. The network also has Eternal based on the Turkish format, from Dallas developer-executive producer Cynthia Cidre; legal procedural Closure, from Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman, and Underground executive producer John Legend; a family legal drama from actress Maya Dunbar; legal drama thriller The Outsider from The Art of More creator Chuck Rose, which received a script commitment plus penalty; and an untitled legal drama from Sex & The City and White Collar alum Willie Garson.

Borten is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Jackoway Tyerman. Mazer is repped by UTA, Inphenate and Stone Genow.
