Focus Features has acquired North American rights and some overseas rights to Tully, the comedy that reteams director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody with Charlize Theron after their 2011 movie Young Adult. Focus has secured an April 20, 2018, release date.
Theron toplines playing Marlo, a mother of three including a newborn who is gifted a night nanny (Mackenzie Davis) by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully. Ron Livingston also stars.

Gilbert; Right of Way’s Reitman and Young Adult producer Helen Estabrook; Cody and Mason Novick; and Theron, A.J. Dix and Beth Kono via Denver & Delilah. Creative Wealth Media Finance’s Jason Cloth and Andy Pollack are executive producers.
Focus also landed international rights including the UK, Italy, Spain, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. WME Global repped the filmmakers and domestic rights. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales.
Theron and Focus also are reteaming, with her and the label’s Atomic Blonde, bowing July 28. She also voiced a main role in the English-language version of Focus’ Oscar-nominated Kubo and the Two Strings.
