The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has drawn up its trimmed list of 20 films vying for Visual Effects Oscar nominations. As usual, the list is peppered with big-budget pics — some of which were massive hits (Deadpool, The Jungle Book, Fantastic Beasts, etc.), some that underperformed (Alice Through the Looking Glass, The BFG, Independence Day: Resurgence) and a few that haven’t been released yet (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Passengers).
