Enderby Entertainment in partnership with Germany’s the Amazing Film Company and Umedia are bringing Sweden’s Intrigo trilogy to the big screen with the Millennium Trilogy‘s Daniel Alfredson attached to direct.
From best-selling Swedish writer Hakan Nesser, the series, set in an unnamed country in Northern Europe, deals with themes of escape, revenge, guilt and atonement. Comprising the novels Death of an Author, Dear Agnes (2002) and Samaria, the Intrigo series is set to be released worldwide in 2017.
“I was immediately captured by Hakan Nesser’s work, who is a hugely successful Swedish novelist, and with Daniel onboard to direct, this could easily become the next Millennium Series,” said Enderby’s Rick Dugdale. “I look forward to turning these books into a thrilling adventure for all audiences.”
Alfredson, best known for helming The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest from the acclaimed Swedish adaptation of the Millennium Trilogy, is set to direct the planned Intrigo trilogy and will co-write with Ditta Bongenhelm. All three films will be shot in English with British and American cast members to be announced in the coming months. Production is set to begin in Europe in early 2017.
Dugdale will produce Intrigo alongside Thomas Peter Friedl and Uwe Schott of the Amazing Film Company, with Daniel Petrie, Jr. aboard as executive producer. Enderby, the Amazing Film Company and Umedia will co-produce and finance the series, with UTA Independent Film Group repping Northern American rights. Alfredson is also repped by UTA.
