USA Network is jumping in the hot true crime drama genre with Unsolved. The network has given a pilot order to the scripted true crime serial that chronicles the two major police investigations into the murders of Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur. The pilot is being directed and executive produced by Anthony Hemingway, director/executive producer on the true crime series that sparked the current interest in the genre, FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
Written by Kyle Long (Suits), Unsolved, from Universal Cable Productions, is based on the experiences of former LAPD Detective Greg Kading, author of the book Murder Rap: The Untold Story of Biggie Smalls & Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations, who led multiple law-enforcement task forces investigating the murders.
Hemingway will executive produce with Mark Taylor through their Hemingway | Taylor production company, along with Long. Kading will be a consultant on the pilot script and also serve as co-executive producer.
Unsolved is USA’ fourth pilot order as part of its 2016/2017 slate. It joins The Sinner, executive produced and starring Jessica Biel; Damnation, from executive producers Tony Tost, James Mangold, and Guymon Casady and Daniel Rappaport; and The Tap, from executive producers Andrew Lenchewski, Rob Reiner and Alan Greisman and Charlie Ebersol. All four pilots are from UCP.
Hemingway received a directing Emmy nomination and shared the Outstanding Limited Series Emmy for People v. O.J. Simpson. He also serves as a director/executive producer on the WGN America series Underground. Hemingway is repped by WME and attorney Thomas Hoberman. Long is repped by WME, The Shuman Co. and attorney Adam Kaller. Kading is repped by Abrams Artists Agency.
