ABC has bought drama project The Disrupters, from Sander/Moses Productions and Warner Bros Television, revisiting a concept it first developed during the 2014-2015 season.

Written/executive produced by Carla Kettner (Bones) and executive produced by Kim Moses, The Disrupters is inspired by the life experiences of Byrdie Lifson-Pompan and Dr. Valerie Ulene, who serve as consulting producers. It centers on a former high-powered Hollywood executive and an idealistic physician who are partners and best friends. Together with their staff of brilliant misfits, they are patient advocates who will stop at nothing to ensure their clients receive the best possible medical care. They navigate the minefields of modern medicine while blazing a trail of love and redemption in their personal lives.

Lifson-Pompan was a top CAA literary agent whose roster included such heavyweights as Brett Ratner, Paul Haggis, Jim Sheridan and Jason Katims. She was misdiagnosed, and her brain tumor went undetected until discovered by another doctor. She underwent surgery and fully recovered. And several years later, Lifson-Pompan, who also had other family members suffer from medical misdiagnoses, made a career change, leaving agenting after 22 years to pursue a career as a medical advocate. She teamed with Ulene, a medical doctor and a health education specialist, to launch Clear Health Advisors, a healthcare consulting and case management company that helps patients navigate the healthcare system, including getting an accurate diagnosis and finding the right treatment.

Lifson-Pompan and Ulene’s story was first adapted to the small screen during the 2014-2015 season with the ABC drama The Advocate, from WBTV and Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s Vendetta. The project, written by Turner, went to pilot and starred Kim Raver and Joy Bryant. Turner and Klein also are credited as executive producers on The Disrupters alongside Moses and Kettner.

Kettner is repped by WME; Lifson-Pompan and Ulene are with CAA. Moses is with UTA.
