Open Road Films has picked up domestic rights to Spark, an animated sci-fi feature by Canadian filmmaker Aaron Woodley that headlines the voice-over talent of Hilary Swank, Susan Sarandon, Patrick Stewart, Jessica Biel and Jace Norman of Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger. The pic will hit theaters on April 14.
Spark is co-production with ToonBox Entertainment, Redrover Co., Ltd, Shanghai Hoongman Technology Co., Ltd. and Gulfstream Pictures. Double Dutch International has global sales on the title except for China and Korea.
Inspired by the 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West, Spark was written by Doug Hadders, Adam Rotstein and Woodley. It follows the space odyssey adventures of a teenage monkey, Spark (Norman), and his friends as they aim to save their planet from the dictatorship of a tyrannical General. Spark‘s EPs are Hoe Jin Ha, Hong Kim, Jay HJ Ahn and Daniel Woo and Gulfstream Pictures’ Mike Karz and Bill Bindley.
