EXCLUSIVE: Patrick Dempsey has signed on as the lead in Good FilmsThe Postcard Killings, directed by Janusz Kaminski from a script by Andrew Stern. Production is scheduled to begin in February. Good Universe is handling international sales on the project, which it will present at AFM this week.

Based on James Patterson and Liza Marklund’s novel, the film is about New York detective Jacob Kanon (Dempsey), who investigates the murder of his newly married daughter and discovers a trail of similar crimes reported throughout Europe — each killing accompanied by a postcard delivered to a local reporter.

Dempsey also will executive produce under his Shifting Gears Entertainment production banner. Good Universe and UTA Independent Film Group are handling domestic rights on the pic.

Good Films’ Invisible starring Clive Owen and Jessica Biel also will be sold at AFM by Good Universe. The company also announced LAbyrinth, starring Johnny Depp, which will be released with Open Road Films in 2017.

Grey’s Anatomy alum Dempsey, who recently appeared in Universal’s Bridget Jones’s Baby, is repped by UTA, the Burstein Company and Stone Genow.

Kaminski and Stern are repped by ICM Partners.
