Fox has given a script plus penalty commitment to Missing American Woman (working title), a female-centered comedy from New Girl co-executive producers Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson and executive producer Jake Kasdan.

'Sex Tape' film premiere, New York, America - 14 Jul 2014

Co-written by Fusfeld and Cuthbertson, Missing American Woman is about a sheltered girl who’s never worked a day in her life. When she goes missing after a shipwreck, she embraces the opportunity to start her life over, working at a remote resort with a crew of slackers and weirdos. Fusfeld and Cuthbertson executive produce alongside Kasdan and his frequent creative partner Melvin Mar.

This is the latest comedy project with a female lead that Fox has put in development this year. It joins untitled single-camera comedies from Ian Brennan, Diablo Cody and Simon Cowell; and Erin Foster and Berlanti Productions. The network already has New Girl, to be joined in January by The Mick, starring Kaitlin Olson.

Kasdan and Mar executive produce together the ABC/20th TV comedy series Speechless and Fresh Off The Boat.
