Freeform head of communications Jori Arancio is moving to broadcast sibling ABC. Arancio has been named SVP Communications at ABC Entertainment & ABC Studios. In the position, Arancio will report to Kevin Brockman, EVP Global Communications for Disney|ABC Television Group. She succeeds Hope Hartman, who departed in September to focus to making documentaries.
Working closely with ABC Studios President Patrick Moran and ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey, Arancio will be responsible for corporate communication efforts, consumer press campaigns, awards outreach and talent relations for the two units.
This marks the latest senior executive position at Disney-ABC filled within the company. For instance, Dungey, named ABC Entertainment president earlier this year, was previously head of drama for the network. And Dungey’s predecessor, Paul Lee, also joined ABC from Freeform (then ABC Family).
Arancio is a 18-year Disney veteran, who first joined in 1998 as Manager of Communications at Disney Channel and quickly was promoted to Director. She then served as VP Communications for ABC Daytime and SOAPnet from 2005 until 2011, when she took the top PR job at Freeform as VP Communications.
“Having worked alongside Jori for more than a decade, I’ve witnessed firsthand her unique take on the art of communications and seen the dramatic and impressive results of her efforts,” Brockman said. “She’s an innovative thinker and a results-driven manager who excels in the social, influencer and digital communications space without losing sight of the importance of traditional media.”
Search is underway for Arancio’s replacement at Freeform.
