Ziff Davis’ IGN Entertainment plans to beef up its video production targeted at gamers and the so-called “geek culture,” and has turned to former Fusion Chief Programming Officer Wade Beckett to lead the way.
The media industry veteran will be Chief Programming Officer and SVP of Video, handling what the company calls “cross-platform video initiatives” from its Los Angeles studio.
IGN produces original content there and in San Francisco. Its Social Video Team develops “custom editorial and partner video programming” for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
“Advertisers are increasingly looking to go beyond pre-roll with custom programs while platforms and content distributors are seeking differentiated original programming that speaks to the fan culture audience,” IGN Entertainment GM and Co-Founder Peer Schneider says.
Bringing on Beckett “will cement IGN’s position as a leader in video for games and geek culture across all screens.”
Before joining Fusion in 2014, Beckett was Executive Producer for ESPN’s SportsNation, and spent six years at NBCUniversal’s G4 network. He also worked at ZDTV, Tech TV, DreamWorks, NBC’s Peter Engel Productions, TV Guide Channel, and CinemaLine.
“There’s never been a more interesting time for video than today and I can’t wait to get started with the IGN Entertainment team,” Beckett says.
