Fox has put in development Amy Herman’s Visual Intelligence, based on Herman’s book, from Memphis Beat creators Liz Garcia and Josh Harto, Blindspot executive producer Mark Pellington and 20th Century Fox TV.
Garcia, Harto and Pellington will co-write and executive produce, and Pellington will direct. Herman also will executive produce.
In the book, art historian Herman, who developed and conducts “The Art of Perception” seminars, uses works of art to help experts from many fields in the art of perception. In her book, she uses art to empower them to see more perceptively, analyze more intelligently and use seemingly hidden clues to better understand any situation.
Herman developed the seminars while working as Head of Education at the Frick Collection, in an effort to help medical students improve their observation skills. After expanding the medical program to seven medical schools in New York, Herman adapted the program for law enforcement professionals across a wide range of agencies including the New York City Police Department, the FBI the Justice Department and the Secret Service. She later joined Thirteen/WNET.org as Director of Educational Development.
Pellington, who has served as executive producer and directed episodes of NBC’s hit series Blindspot, next will direct Book of Lies for AMC and indie feature The Last Word, starring Amanda Seyfried and Shirley MacLaine, for Bleecker Street Media. He’s repped by UTA and 3 Arts.
Garcia wrote and directed One Percent Humid, a coming-of-age dramedy starring Juno Temple, Julia Garner, and Alessandro Nivola. The film is being produced by Garcia and Harto through La Pistola, Inc. and Greg Beauchamp’s Red Productions. Additionally, Harto is set to appear in Stephen Gaughan’s Gold, alongside Matthew McConaughey, which is slated for release in January 2017. Garcia and Harto are repped by CAA, Madhouse Entertainment and attorney Jeff Frankel.
Herman is repped by UTA, which made the deal on behalf of Susan Ginsburg at Writers House.
