On the day that Canadian-based White Pines Pictures dropped Fred Peabody’s critically acclaimed documentary All Governments Lie: Truth, Deception, and the Spirit of I.F. Stone, into theaters for its Oscar-qualifying run, First Run Features is stepping up to help push the film out wider in the U.S. Executive produced by Oliver Stone, the film opened today in New York and Los Angeles, and First Run Features will release it wider in early 2017.

All Governments Lie chronicles the life and legacy of the maverick American journalist I.F. Stone, who for decades led a one-man crusade against government deception. He took on the powers that be — from Red-baiting fearmonger Joe McCarthy to Presidents Johnson and Reagan — in the pages of the tiny publication I.F. Stone’s Weekly and later in the New York Review of Books and The Nation. It features interviews with such journalists and opinion makers as Michael Moore, Carl Bernstein, Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, David Corn, John Carlos Frey, Amy Goodman, Glenn Greenwald, Chris Hedges, Ana Kasparian, Jeremy Scahill, Nermeen Shaikh, Matt Taibbi and Cenk Uygur.

“It is great to have First Run Features as our distributor in the United States,” says producer Peter Raymont, president of White Pine Pictures in making the announcement. “The timing of this film is very important in the ever-changing climate of the 24-hour news cycle that we all live in. We feel that First Run is a great distribution partner to get this out to as many people as possible.”

The deal was negotiated by Marc Mauceri of FRF and Steve Ord, COO of White Pines Pictures.
