Less than a week after Luke Cage launched on Netflix, the launch date of Marvel’s Iron Fist was announced today by the streaming service, along with a first look at the Finn Jones-led series. The 13-episode first season of the fourth Marvel show on Netflix will premiere on March 17, 2017.
That 12:01 AM PT launch follows the September 30 debut of the Mike Colter-led Cage as well as the debuts of Marvel’s Daredevil and Marvel’s Jessica Jones last year. The quartet of live-action superhero series will culminate in the team-up of The Defenders, which is expect to launch itself next year. Having appeared in Season 2 of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal will also once again play vigilante Frank Castle in The Punisher spinoff series for Netflix and Marvel.
As well as putting the launch date for Iron Fist out, Netflix and Marvel also this morning dropped a first look photo of the Scott Buck-showrun series where Jones plays once missing billionaire by day and martial arts master by night Danny Rand. While not wearing the bright costume that Iron Fist is known for, the photo clearly shows that Jones’ Rand has got the moves.
First introduced in the comics in 1974, the Gil Kane and Roy Thomas-created Iron Fist frequently teamed up with Luke Cage in the Heroes For Hire series. As for Iron Fist the TV series, that will be making its confab debut later this week at New York Comic-Con with members of the cast and Buck expected to be in attendance.
As well as Jones, fellow GoTer Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup and Tom Pelphrey also star in Iron Fist. Having appeared in Jessica Jones and briefly in Daredevil S2, Carrie-Anne Moss will also be in Iron Fist as power lawyer Jeri Hogarth. A tease for Iron Fist was shown at San Diego Comic-Con this summer, take a look here if you missed it:
