Margot Robbie is in final negotiations to join Peter Rabbit, Sony/Columbia’s live-action/CGI hybrid feature film based on Beatrix Potter’s classic characters. The pic has been casting up, with Deadline breaking last week that Domhnall Gleeson has been set to play menacing farmer Mr. McGregor.
Will Gluck is directing, with Gleeson and Rose Byrne playing the live-action roles. Robbie joins James Corden as Peter, Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki in the voice cast. Production starts at Australia’s animated VFX studio Animal Logic in January with an eye at a April 2018 release date. The screenplay is by Rob Lieber with revisions by Gluck.
Robbie is already aboard another classic fairy-tale pic, Fox Searchlight’s untitled A.A. Milne project centered on Winnie the Pooh. That one also stars Gleeson as well as Will Tilston as a young Christopher Robin. Simon Curtis is directing and shooting began last month in and around London.
Robbie, who stole the show in Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad, is repped by CAA, Management 360, attorney Jeff Bernstein and Aran Michael Management.
