Vice Films, Insurgent Media, Chimney Pot and 20th Century Fox area partnering on Jonas Akerlund’s Lords Of Chaos, which stars Rory Culkin and newly announced cast including Emory Cohen, Jack Kilmer and Sky Ferreira. Akerlund directed Beyonce: Lemonade and other music videos for bands like The Rolling Stones, Madonna and Maroon 5 before venturing into features. His movie credits include Spun which starred Jason Schwartzman, Mickey Rourke, Brittany Murphy and John Leguizamo.
Lords Of Chaos, which Akerlund co-wrote with Dennis Magnusson, follows young Norwegian band Mayhem that popularized a form of heavy metal music known as “True Norwegian Black Metal,” with a flair for publicity, church-burning and even murder.
Vice Films’ Danny Gabai & Jim Czarnecki are producing with Insurgent’s Ezna Sands, Scott Free’s Jack Arbuthnott, Chimney Pot’s Frederick Zander, Kwesi Dickson and Eleven Arts’ Ko Mori. Vice’s Eddy Moretti, Shane Smith and Vince Landay are executive producing with Insurgent’s Ashley Richardson and Scott Free’s Carlo Dusi.
Protagonist is handling international sales, with Fox coming on board to handle North American, UK, Scandinavian and Brazilian rights.
