ITV Studios and Talpa’s new connected game show, 5 Golden Rings, has received orders from ITV in the UK and the Netherlands’ SBS6 with air set for early 2017. The primetime format keeps it all in the family with ITV Studios’ partner Possessed co-creating the series with Talpa in what is the first joint development by the two companies. ITV Studios’ parent ITV acquired John de Mol’s Talpa last year.

Set for a key launch at Mipcom later this month, 5 Golden Rings is a physical game show that’s played out on a giant interactive LED floor. Players are given a quintet of rings and must answer questions over five levels. A projection on the floor forms the basis of each question (ie a map upon which contestants have to identify a certain spot). Players must put the rings on the correct answer, but the rings become smaller throughout the game making it more challenging. At-home viewers are also able to ring answers on their phone and become part of the experience.

While some interactive shows have hit stumbling blocks, viewers are still asking for them. Says Glenn Hugill, Managing Director of Possessed, “We think we have created something unique for the Instagram generation.”

De Mol calls the show, which will be titled 5 Gold Rings in the UK, “just the beginning of our already successful partnership.” ITV has also ordered such shows from Talpa as The Wishing Tree; Dance, Dance, Dance; and The Voice which the network took over from the BBC this year.

Talpa Global will launch 5 Golden Rings at Mipcom and ITV Studios will produce versions in countries where it has local outposts. After multiple territories have made local orders, a production hub will be created in the Netherlands to be coordinated by Talpa Productions.
