No surprise here. With Universal absorbing DreamWorks Animation earlier this year, previous pics How to Train Your Dragon 3 and Larrikins originally scheduled to go out via the studio’s 20th Century Fox distribution deal, will now be handled by Uni. Fox announced Larrikins for a February 16, 2018 release and Dragon 3 for May 18, 2018. Those dates will remain intact on Uni’s schedule. DWA’s distribution agreement with Fox expires at the end of 2017. Fox has DWA’s Trolls opening on November 4 and it’s expected to rake in a healthy gross of $30M against Disney/Marvel’s monolith Doctor Strange which is expected to pull in between $50M-$75M.

Larrikins is currently facing off against Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther on its mid-winter date, and Dragon 3 remains unopposed during the weekend prior to the Memorial Day four-day stretch.

During the summer, Anita Busch reported on Larrikins’ Aussie cast of Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Ben Mendelsohn and Rose Byrne, and noted that the title directed by Tim Minchin and Chris Miller was headed to Uni. Dragon 3 is directed by Dean DeBlois who helmed the first two titles which totaled $1.1 billion at the global B.O. and earned together 3 Oscar noms.

Croods 2 has already moved off of Fox’s slate. The sequel was dated for December 22 next year and word is that sequel will find a 2018 release date at Uni. DWA’s Boss Baby on March 31 and Captain Underpants on June 2 next year will be released by Fox.
