Boasting Broadway’s highest average ticket price of $206.03, it’s no wonder Hamilton returned last week to the $2 million club, taking in $2.2 million at the Nederlander Organization’s Richard Rodgers Theater. The blockbuster was up $222.5K in a generally down week at the Broadway box office, when most shows saw steep drops from the previous stand. Another winner was the revival of The Front Page, which opened to sparkling reviews for stars Nathan Lane and John Slattery and posted a $137.4K improvement over the previous week. Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur’s 1928 journofarce rang up $1.24 million in sales at the Shubert Organization’s Broadhurst Theatre, where the average ticket price was $131.20.

The news was pretty lousy for the rest of the Street, as sales tumbled 8 per cent in Week 23 of the 2016-2017 season. Wicked was off $225K at the Nederlander Organization’s Gershwin Theatre, with a total of $1.45 million reaxching  81 per cent of its gross potential. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock The Musical was down $198.5K at the Shuberts’ Winter Garden, while Disney’s Aladdin, at the New Amsterdam mother ship, was down $183.5K to $1.28 million. On Your Feet!, at the Nederlanders’ Marquis, slumped $175.6K to$705.5K or 45 per cent of potential.

Two shows opened, both revivals: Falsettos, at co-producer (with Lincoln Center Theater) Jujamcyn’s Walter Kerr, to an all-out rave from the Times’ Charles Isherwood, and Les Liaisons Dangereuses, at the Shuberts’ Booth, to a Halloween Boo! from Ben Brantley. Newcomer Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812 weathered ongoing squabbles between Ars Nova, the non-profit that birthed the musical, and producers Howard and Janet Kagan, who adopted it. Down slightly at the Shuberts’ Imperial, the show still beat the $1 million mark while enjoying good word of mouth from customers.

Total box office tally for 31 shows was $25.2 million, according to figures released by the trade group Broadway League, down $2.25 million from the week before, but up 10 per cent up from the same week a year ago.
