EXCLUSIVE: Cross Creek Pictures has acquired the upcoming sci-fi adventure novel Unearthed, and is plotting it for Doug Liman to develop as a directing vehicle. This comes after the production company and Liman teamed on American Made, the Tom Cruise-starrer which Universal releases September 29, 2017. Unearthed is the first of a two-book series to be published next year by Disney’s Hyperion. Its written by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, the bestselling authors of These Broken Stars, This Shattered World, and Their Fractured Light. Cross Creek’s Tyler Thompson will produce.

Novel is a YA thriller described as Lara Croft Meets Indiana Jones, set in deep space. Jules Addison and Amelia Radcliffe join forces in a tomb-raiding race on a newly discovered planet to unravel the secrets of an ancient, long- extinct civilization — only to uncover a revelation that could spell the end of the human race. The authors, who were willing to sell pre-publication because they are big fans of Liman, are repped by Stephen Moore of Paul Kohner Agency.
