Disney and Universal’s Florida theme parks are closing early today in preparation for Hurricane Matthew, and will stay closed tomorrow.

Walt Disney World will go dark at 5 PM ET. That will affect the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, miniature golf courses and ESPN Wide World of Sports. The company announced earlier that it would wave its dining and Disney Resort hotel cancellation fees for those changing their plans due to the storm.

This is the fourth time since it opened in 1971 that Disney World has closed due to a storm.

And Universal’s Wet ‘n Wild will close at 2 PM ET while Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal CityWalk shutter at 5. Halloween Horror Night 26 also won’t take place today or tomorrow.

The Comcast-owned operation says it plans to “resume normal operation across our entire destination as of Saturday morning.”

President Obama today declared a state of emergency for the state. Gov. Rick Scott told about 1.5 million people in the areas likely to be hit hardest to “evacuate, evacuate, evacuate.” Landfall is expected tonight between West Palm Beach and Cape Canaveral, with winds possibly exceeding 145 mph.
