The biggest story on the Today show today was barely mentioned this morning until 15-minutes into the broadcast – and then it only was given one line. “We want to note one other thing, pending further review, NBC News has suspended Billy Bush, the host of Today’s third hour for his role in that conversation with Donald Trump,” said Savannah Guthrie to camera of the hot mic 2005 Access Hollywood tape that revealed lewd and demeaning talk about women by the two men.

The one-liner came after a roundtable summary with Guthrie, NBC News anchor Lester Holt and others of the fallout from the tape and last night’s second Presidential debate between the increasingly embattled Trump and Hillary Clinton – take a look at the total of Today’s addressing Bush’s absence here, all 10-seconds of it:

Taking over the body politic and TV talking heads almost completely since the more than decade old recording was dropped the Washington Post on October 7, the leaked audio was the opening topic of the rival’s meeting on Sunday night.

NBC News waited until Sunday afternoon to decided to take the 9 AM host off the air – with a memo from SVP Noah Oppenheim announcing the decision on the afternoon of October 9. “Let me be clear — there is simply no excuse for Billy’s language and behavior on that tape,” the note to Today staff said. “NBC has decided to suspend Billy, pending further review of this matter.

No word this morning on when or if Bush will be rejoining Today or NBC again soon, tough his picture is still featured on the morning show’s social media feeds. Today co-host Matt Lauer was also not on the show today – but that had nothing to do with the latest Trump scandal, he had Monday booked off.
