United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell is returning for a second season. Eight one-hour episodes have been ordered, to debut next spring. In its first season, the series was nominated for an Emmy Award.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with CNN on more episodes of ‘United Shades of America’,” Bell said in a statement, adding, “we need more platforms that demonstrate how to have productive, respectful, enlightening, and funny conversations.” Network EVP Amy Entelis echoed that sentiment in the announcement, complimenting Bell for his “unparalleled ability to use his natural curiosity and sense of humor to ignite necessary and sometimes tough conversations around race and society in this country.”

CNN noted the show was the youngest skewing cable-news program in its timeslot and ranked No. 1 among adults 25-54 across cable news in the slot.
