New York magazine’s national affairs editor Gabriel Sherman has joined NBC News and MSNBC as a contributor.

Sherman is best known these days for his widely covered reporting on Roger Ailes’ exit from Fox News. But it wasn’t the first of Sherman reports on the ousted Fox News Channel founder; in 2014, he published an unauthorized Ailes bio The Loudest Voice In The Room.

A lawyer representing Ailes has sent a letter to New York magazine suggesting Ailes might take legal action over its reporting on the former Fox News chairman, The Financial Times reported over the weekend.

Sherman will be a contributor on media stories as well as political coverage on both MSNBC and NBC broadcast network news programs. He will continue to work for the magazine.

MSNBC made the announcement of its Sherman hire on air this afternoon.
