UPDATE with complete Night 1 winners: HBO’s Game Of Thrones picked up its marauding pace of last year’s Emmy season tonight during Night 1 of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. HBO’s hit fantasy drama scored nine wins this evening — one more than it had after the Creative Arts ceremony last year when it won a record 12 Emmys overall including Best Drama Series.

HBO as usual leads the pack with 11 wins, but FX is close second with 10 on Night 1. Night 2 of the Creative Arts are tomorrow at 5 PM PT.

Among the notables tonight in the ceremony dedicated mostly to craft categories was a win by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in the Guest Comedy Actress category for co-hosting Saturday Night Live this past season. It was the first time a pair had been nominated as one in the category and of course the first time a pair has won. Other Guest winners: Hank Azaria for Showtime’s Ray Donovan and The Americans‘ Margo Martindale, who nabbed her third Emmy.

Also notable: Girls‘ Peter Scolari, who went from missing out on an original nomination to sneaking in the back door a couple days later when nominee Peter MacNicol of Veep was deemed ineligible for appearing too much in the HBO comedy. Tonight’s win came against what was considered the heavy favorite Larry David, who played Bernie Sanders so well on SNL.

This was the first of two Creative Arts Emmy Awards shows, a new format born this year after last year’s ceremony hit 82 categories. The glut forced producers to impose draconian measures to keep acceptance speeches under 30 seconds — resulting in winners ditching their shoes to sprint to the stage. Still, at the beginning of tonight’s ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre L.A. Live downtown winners were encouraged to keep to the 30-second limit.

Diane Warren

Other key winners tonight: Diane Warren and Lady Gaga for Outstanding Music & Lyrics for The Hunting Ground theme ” ‘Til It Happens To You.” It was a bit of redemption for the duo, who were the favorites in the Original Song Oscar category this year but lost. Warren backstage dedicated the win to her late publicist Ronnie Chasen.

Here’s how it went down tonight, including the complete list of winners from Night 1:

4:55 PM: Looks like we’re getting an on-time start tonight. The TV Academy says this new format will be two two-hour programs. Consider the stopwatch started.

4:58 PM: Kicking off the ceremony, Creative Arts Emmy show committee chair Kevin Hamburger just announced to the hall that the show would run just two hours — first big applause of the night. Then he announced acceptance speeches must still be kept to 30 seconds — crickets.

5:05 PM: West Wing alert: Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford are first presenters — nice election year tip of the hat. They’re kind of stumbling over words onstage. Janney: “We did rehearse this before and we are professional actors.”

Here come the winners…
