“Love, time, death — these three things connect every single human being on Earth. We long for love, we wish we had more time, and we fear death.” Heady stuff. Here is the first trailer for Collateral Beauty, starring Will Smith as a “brilliant, creative, charismatic guy” who used to love life but now hates it since his young daughter’s death. Howard spends lots of time writing letters, not to people but to “things” — guess which three? — as a means of therapy. Before long he is “gifted” with personifications of Love, Time and Death, who give him a chance to “live again.” Cue image of tumbling dominoes.

Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Michael Pena, Naomie Harris, Jacob Latimore, with Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren co-star in director David Frankel’s film written by Allan Loeb. The producers include Michael Sugar, who shared the Best Picture Oscar for Spotlight, along with that film’s EPs Bard Dorros and Michael Bederman. New Line Cinema release the film December 16, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures.
