ATX Television Festival is accepting submissions for both its Season 6 Pitch Competition and Black List television writing program. Both competitions open today and will run through January 20.
The Pitch Competition gives burgeoning writers the opportunity to pitch their ideas to ATX’s studio and network partners and have their scripts read by top executives. Writers must submit a 90-second video pitch of their scripted idea, along with a 10-page script sample. Following three rounds of judging, the top 10 finalists will have the opportunity to pitch live at the ATX Television Festival, which runs June 8-11 in Austin, to a panel of industry professionals who will choose one winner. The winner have the chance to pitch his or her idea to ATX’s studio and network partners, have their script read by top executives, sit in on a current-series writers room and meet with a top showrunner. In addition, ATX and the Black List are partnering for a second year on a writing program aimed at identifying television writers for staffing consideration. Participating networks, studios and production companies this year include HBO, Bad Robot, Carlton Cuse Productions, Amblin Television, Okay Goodnight, Hazy Mills Productions and Kilter Films.
To have their scripts considered, writers must host their original pilots on the Black List website for at least one week during the period from September 23 through January 20. Based on all data collected about the scripts during their hosting on the site during that time, the Black List will identify 10-15 of the strongest scripts (both hourlong and half-hour) to be shared with the participating studios, networks, and production companies, with the goal of identifying writers with whom those organizations would like to work on existing projects. These finalists will be notified by January 27 and will automatically be given the option to submit to the second round of ATX TV Festival’s annual Pitch Competition.
