The Vampire Diaries final chapter may feature the series’ original lead Nina Dobrev. “There are discussions,” the CW president Mark Pedowitz said at TCA Thursday about Dobrev appearing on the upcoming eight and final season of the supernatural series, created/executive produced and run by Julie Plec. “We would love to have her — she was great and integral to the show’s success.”

I hear talks have been difficult. Pedowitz alluded to that, noting, “Should it not work out, Julie has a great series finale planned for the fans.”

Pedowitz also talked about how the decision was made to end The Vampire Diaries, produced by Warner Bros. TV. “(WBTV president) Peter Roth, Julie and I, we collective came to the same place —  actually Julie got there before Peter and I did — that this was the right time to end the series.”
