EXCLUSIVE: Angel An, who previously worked at Alibaba Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films, has just joined Roadside Attractions as senior director of acquisitions. The move comes before RSA heads into the Toronto Film Festival next month. She will be reporting to co-Presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff. The company most recently released Indignation, which marks the feature directorial debut of writer/producer James Schamus. That film has grossed over $560K in only two weekends in release; last weekend it had a very respectable $7,641 per screen average.

An, who is fluent in Mandarin, has been in the entertainment industry for many years, first starting out at William Morris Endeavor before segueing into jobs in acquisitions. Previously at Alibaba Pictures she helped in developing their co-production slate and before that was the director of acquisitions and development at Samuel Goldwyn Films where she helped in acquiring Renior, Somm, That Sugar Film, Barista and Tangerines. In past stints, she worked in acquisitions and distribution at Cohen Media Group and also served as the acquisitions, marketing and distribution manager at First Independent Pictures.

Roadside Attractions slate includes Richard Tanne’s Southside With You which was inspired by the first date of Barack and Michelle Obama in Chicago in 1989 and will release on Aug. 26th and then Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler. That is schedule to bow in November.
