Hulu has closed a deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution for SVOD rights to Emmy-winning Showtime drama Homeland. Seasons 1-4 are available to Hulu subscribers starting today.

These are considered the exclusive off-network SVOD rights to Homeland. The series continues to be available through Showtime’s platforms, including its OTT service, which is carried by Hulu for $8.99 a month. Showtime on Hulu currently offers all existing seasons of Homeland (1-5), though Hulu subscribers now are able to watch the first four seasons without having to pay the extra fee for the Showtime service on Hulu.

The inclusion of Homeland on Showtime’s OTT service and the service’s launch on Hulu last year led to a dispute between the network and Homeland producer 20th Century Fox TV, whose cable division Fox 21 TV Studios is behind the series, as the studio was exploring its own SVOD deal possibilities for Homeland.

Homeland has drawn in audiences for years on Showtime, and we cannot wait to give even more viewers the chance to watch and discover it on Hulu,” said Craig Erwich, Hulu’s SVP and Head of Content.

Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, Homeland was developed for American television by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon and is based on the Israeli series Prisoners Of War by Gideon Raff, which streams exclusively in the U.S. on Hulu. Along with Gansa and Gordon, executive producers for Season 6 will be Chip Johannessen, Lesli Linka Glatter, Patrick Harbinson, Michael Klick, Raff, Avi Nir and Ran Telem.

Homeland recently received its fourth Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series and star Claire Danes received her fifth for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Carrie Mathison. The show goes into production on its sixth season later this summer in New York City for a premiere in early 2017.

Hulu’s growing library of exclusive off-network content also includes Roots, Blindspot, Empire, Fargo, Curious George, Lucifer, South Park and licensing deals with major cable networks FX, Turner and AMC Networks.
