Here is the first trailer for Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply, long known as his untitled Howard Hughes project before the title came out a couple of months ago. Written, directed and produced by Beatty, the film from Regency Enterprises and 20th Century Fox. stars Lilly Collins and Alden Ehrenreich (who is also soon to be the young Han Solo) in the story of an aspiring young actress (Collins), her ambitious young driver (Ehrenreich) and the eccentric billionaire (Beatty) they work for. Co-starring Matthew Broderick, Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, Candice Bergen, Ed Harris, Steve Coogan and Oliver Platt, the pic will be released November 23.

The roughly $26.7M production was funded by billionaires Ron Burkle, Steve Bing, Windsor Media’s Terry Semel, Arnon Milchan’s New Regency and James Packer and Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment.

The logline: “It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small-town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles.

RulesDon'tApply
20th Century Fox

At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his seventh-grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test but also defies Hughes’ No. 1 rule: No employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.”
