Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has acquired a minority stake in Swedish production banner Palladium Fiction. Palladium is led by Henrik Björn, Filip Hammarström and Johan Rudolphie, who created hit noir drama Jordskott, the winner of Sweden’s prestigious Kristallen award for Best TV Drama.

Palladium will focus on high-end international dramas, with SPT handling international distribution. This is the latest example of Sony expanding its global footprint. Last month, Sony acquired a minority stake in UK production banner Blueprint Television. The new venture led by Pete Czernin and Graham Broadbent of Blueprint Pictures. In March, Sony acquired a minority stake in fast-rising UK producer Faye Ward’s banner Fable Pictures. Sony also has a majority stake in UK banner Left Bank Pictures, which is producing the $100 million event Netflix series The Crown, following the long reign of current monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

“Palladium are a great complement to our growing portfolio of high quality drama production companies.”said Sony president of International Production Andrea Wong. “Collectively, Henrik, Filip and Johan have a distinctive voice that is edgy, thought-provoking and entertaining. Their talents are evident in their ambitious development slate and we look forward to helping them build on their success.”

Palladium is in development on a second season of Jordskott with Swedish broadcaster SVT. They currently have three other projects in development including a new project in partnership with Jimmy Desmarais, the producer of French dramas such as The Returned and Last Panthers.
