Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Plan B Entertainment (The Big Short, 12 Years a Slave) have come aboard to finance and produce the comedy Brad’s Status, an original screenplay written by Mike White (School Of Rock) who will also direct. Ben Stiller is in final negotiations to star in the film that is set to shoot in September.

The film centers on Brad, who despite a good career and happy family is obsessed with the better fortunes of his old friends from school. While escorting his son on an East Coast tour of colleges, Brad is forced to confront his friends and his feelings of failure — with hilarious and poignant results.

White and Plan B brought the project to SKE. White will produce with David Bernad, Plan B and SKE, which is currently discussing the project with potential domestic distribution partners.

White is a multi-hypenate (actor, writer, and director and all around very decent human) with feature credits that include writing the hit School of Rock starring Jack Black, writing and directing the comedy Year of the Dog, starring Molly Shannon and John C. Reilly and writing The Good Girl, starring Jennifer Aniston, and Nacho Libre, starring (again) Jack Black. His latest project — which he co-created, wrote and directed —  was the award winning HBO series Enlightened which starred Oscar nominee Laura Dern.

Stiller most recently completed production on Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories opposite Dustin Hoffman and Adam Sandler.

White is repped by UTA. Stiller is repped by WME. Plan B Entertainment is represented by CAA.
