Ryan Kwanten has joined Maggie Grace and John Malcovich in Supercon, the comedy heist pic from Zak Knutson. The casting reunites the Aussie-born Kwanten and Grace, who also team in Rob Cohen’s action thriller Category 5. Supercon follows a motley group of comic book artists and former TV stars earning a living working fan conventions who set out to rob a crooked promoter and an overbearing former TV icon. Kwanten (True Blood) plays a voice actor who comes up with the plan — a smooth-talking fearless leader who mainly gets by on dumb luck but is always charming. Kwanten, who most recently starred in Kidnapping Mr. Heineken opposite Jim Sturgess and Sam Worthington, is repped by CAA, LINK Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who co-stars as disco king/gangster/club owner Cadillac in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Netflix series The Get Down, has been added to a pair of films. He is joining Vera Farmiga, Bobby Cannavale and Christopher Plummer in Boundaries, the road-trip pic written and directed by Shana Feste. Lewis MacDougall, Kristen Schaal, Peter Fonda, Christopher Lloyd and Dolly Wells also co-star. He also has been added to the cast of Sidney Hall, playing a history teacher who becomes the literary agent for Sidney (Logan Lerman). Abdul-Mateen, who is next up in Baywatch, is repped by Gersh and Anonymous Content.
