The second night of the Republican National Convention was seemingly plagiarism-free as Tiffany Trump and Donald Trump Jr. paid homage to their father, as did once-VP contender Gov. Chris Christie, with offstage drama swirling over the impeding exit of Fox News boss Roger Ailes due to a sexual harassment scandal.

Once again NBC, CBS and ABC all carried speeches from Cleveland live in the 10 PM hour and again it looks like the Comcast-owned net came up on top with a 1.1/5 rating and 5.30 million viewers. While even with Night 1 and steady viewershipwise with four years ago, that’s down 15% among the 18-49 from what NBC had in early numbers on the comparable August 28 night of the GOP get-together in 2012 – which adjusted to a 1.0 later on. Night 1 of the RNC 2012, like RNC 2008, was cancelled due to weather issues.

Snagging a 0.5/2 rating each, ABC and CBS were even and down a tenth, respectively, from 2012 in the demo last night. NBC slipped 2% in viewers from the Tuesday comparative night in 2012 in Tampa, the Disney-owned net was down 3%, and the House of Moonves was took a 25% hit. Compared to July 18, last night’s RNC overall was down a tenth in the ratings to a combined 2.1 with 10.06 million watching. Estimates are that Tuesday should prove pretty close in total RNC viewership, including the cable newers, to the just more than 22.5 million who watched on Night 1.

In another similarity to 2012, the show that had America’s attention wasn’t the RNC but America’s Got Talent (2.2/9). The top-rated and most-watched (10.75 million) show of the night, AGT was steady with its July 12 airing with just an 8% dip in the demo. Looking back four years ago, last night’s AGT was also down 8% among the 18-49. Overall, with convention coverage adjustments expected, NBC resoundingly took the night with a 1.9/7 rating and 8.93 million viewers.

The only other originals on the Big 4 were CBS’ Zoo (0.7/3) and Fox’s Hotel Hell (0.8/4) and Coupled (0.5/2). The CBS series was down a tenth from its July 12 show, while the Fox shows were both up a tenth from their last originals July 5.

The CW wrapped the first and last season of Containment (0.3/1), which was even with last week.
