PBS has apologized “for any confusion” for interweaving previous fireworks footage into its broadcast last night of A Capitol Fourth, due to inclement weather in Washington, D.C.
“With the weather being overcast, we showed a combination of the best fireworks from this year and previous years,” the public broadcaster said on Facebook and Twitter. “It was the patriotic thing to do.” PBS later tweeted this apology:
The pretaped portions became obvious to viewers, prompting an outcry on social media. Several noticed that the scaffolding currently on the Capitol building would disappear and then re-appear. Here’s a sampling of viewer tweets.
