Making his Hall H debut, David Yates came onstage at Comic-Con to introduce the cast of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Eddie Redmayne’s entrance prompted loud, mostly female “whoooos” from the crowd, who seemed to adore him with the same level of devotion they earlier showed Tom Hiddleston for Kong: Skull Island. The Oscar-winning actor made fans grin as he walked out into the throng at the beginning of the panel and began handing out wands. Several hundred people from Warner Bros then followed suit as moderator-host Conan O’Brien said: “Everyone here is getting their own wand.”

Redmayne then led the entire audience in a mass Luminos Maxima spell, which resulted in a ridiculous special effect broadcast on the Hall H video screen. He then Snapchatted the audience raising their wands into the air.

Written by JK Rowling, the Harry Potter prequel sees Redmayne as pre-eminent “magizoologist” Newt Scamander, who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures. The trailer has a decidedly whimsical tone, with some terrifically odd beings and steampunk style, but also depicts a more adult world than the Potter universe. There’s even a hint of romance, and not of the Potteresque puppy love variety.

Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, and Colin Farrell also star. The film hits theaters November 18.
