EXCLUSIVE: Bailee Madison has been tapped to star in Different Folks, a holiday movie set up at Freeform to be produced by Myriad Pictures. It will mark the feature directorial debut of Myriad CEO Kirk D’Amico, and his company will be financing and handling worldwide sales. Freeform will air it this year as part of its holiday programming block.
The comedy, penned by Holly Goldberg Sloan (Made In America, Angels In The Outfield), centers on a shy high school student (Madison) who has been struggling to hold her family together after her mother’s death a few years earlier, becoming a surrogate mother to her father and brothers. During the holidays, she wishes she could have a “perfect life” like the one she sees her neighbors the Wellmans have. When a freak accident of mystical proportions suddenly grants Abby her wish, she instantly becomes part of the Wellman family. She soon finds out that her new life isn’t exactly how she was expecting it to be.
D’Amico, whose exec producing credits include Margin Call and The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby, is producing with JoBro Productions, with JoBro’s Jonathan Bronfman and Jay Deverett also serving as producers. Theresa Won and Michael Roiff will executive produce. Shooting kicks off this summer in Toronto.
Madison, who plays Sophia Quinn on Freeform’s The Fosters, is heading into production on Season 3 of her Hallmark Channel series Good Witch. Her other TV credits include ABC’s Once Upon A Time, playing the young Snow White. Her film credits include the Adam Sandler-Jennifer Aniston pic Just Go With It, Brothers, Parental Guidance and Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark.
The teen also has produced two films: Cowgirl’s Story and Annabelle Hooper And The Ghosts Of Nantucket.
“Holly has written a holiday comedy which is destined to become a classic and which perfectly suits Bailee’s incredible and versatile talents,” D’Amico said. “We are so pleased that this film will premiere on Freeform this year as part of their annual holiday programming event.”
Madison is repped by Gersh, Coast to Coast Talent Group and attorney Derek Kroeger.
