EXCLUSIVE: Verizon’s Go90 has given a straight-to-series order to OBB Pictures’ scripted sports comedy The 5th Quarter. The mockumentary series made in partnership with 3 Arts Entertainment and Kids at Play chronicles “the greatest untold and untrue stories in sports history” will get 12 episodes with the series premiere slated for late 2016 on the streaming service. Created by OBB Pictures founder Michael D. Ratner and OBB Head of Development Matthew Hirschhorn, The 5th Quarter will feature guest appearances from comedians, actors and pro athletes as themselves and as fictional characters. Among those confirmed to appear are Blake Griffin, Paul George, Chandler Parsons, Shawne Merriman, Jerry O’Connell, Mark Cuban, Ahmad Rashad, and Chris Parnell.

Ratner will direct eight episodes of The 5th Quarter and serves as showrunner and also executive produces alongside OBB’s Scott Ratner and Eric D. Cohen, 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Jonathan Berry, and Amy Laslett and Jason Berger of Kids at Play. OBB’s Elias Tanner and Kfir Goldberg produce. Episodes will be written by Michael D. Ratner, Hirschhorn, Cohen and co-executive producer Sean Spencer. Seth Weitberg (Drunk History) will also write and serves as co-executive producer. The 5th Quarter adds to OBB Pictures’ sports and comedy programming, which includes the ESPN 30 for 30 short film Gonzo @ the Derby, which premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, several episodes for Vice Sports’ Ride Along with Mandalay Sports Media, with whom OBB has a co-production agreement for sports-related films, TV and multiplatform programming. OBB also recently completed production on Tinder’s first original series, and the documentary One in a Billion.

OBB Pictures recently added Eric D. Cohen as Head of Content and Operations, and Matthew Hirschhorn as Head of Development, and is in the process of launching its inaugural “Pilot Season” program to incubate and finance a group of 5-10 short pilots or proofs of concept for digital and television series spanning multiple genres from a range of independent writers, directors, and producers. OBB also recently announced a strategic partnership with Authentic Brands to develop content opportunities on digital and traditional platforms using ABG owned brands including Elvis and Muhammad Ali among others.
