Comedian Rell Battle has been promoted to regular on the new pilot for Superior Donuts, CBS multi-camera comedy starring Jermaine Fowler. Battle was a guest star in the original pilot for the show, written and executive produced by Neil Goldman & Garrett Donovan and Bob Daily. CBS recently ordered a second pilot for the sitcom, from CBS TV Studios, for midseason consideration. The project is recasting the co-lead opposite Fowler.

Based on the play by Tracy Letts, Superior Donuts follows the relationship between the owner of a donut shop (the role that is being recast), his new young employee (Fowler) and their patrons in a gentrifying neighborhood of Chicago. Battle plays Franco’s buddy, Sweatpants.

In addition to Fowler, Battle also joins returning series regulars Maz Jobrani and David Koechner.

Daily, who serves as showrunner, executive produces alongside Goldman, Donovan, Fowler, Mark Teitelbaum, John Montgomery and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Josh Lieberman.

Battle is repped by ICM Partners, 3 Arts and Ziffren Brittenham.
