There weren’t any NBA playoffs or NHL Stanley Cup games on television last night, but there were some heavyweight moves as Simon Cowell returned to U.S. small screens. The Season 11 debut of America’s Got Talent (2.6/10) saw the caustic ex-American Idol judge and AGT co-creator join Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Mel B in the seat of now-departed Howard Stern.

In early numbers, last night’s AGT was exactly even with the Season 10 premiere on May 26 last year among adults 18-49. Now, we could see adjustments, but as it stands, that means the two-hour opener is tied for an all-time premiere low for the NBC competition show.

With a solid debut of summer variety show Maya & Marty (1.5/6), NBC had the night’s two top shows and won Tuesday with a 2.2/8 rating and 9.82 million viewers.

CBS and the CW were mainly encores last night, but an original Person of Interest (1.0/4) was up a tenth from its May 24 episode, while Containment (0.4/1) was down by the same amount. On the second-to-last night of its latest run, ABC’s 8-10 PM 500 Questions (0.9/3) was up 124% in the demo from its May 28 offering and 26% from its May 27 show to hit a Season 2 high.

A full night of programming on Fox saw Gordon Ramsay’s Hotel Hell (0.8/3) even with last week’s season premiere, while Coupled (0.5/2) also matched its May 24 airing.
