Sacha Baron Cohen is circling a feature film adaptation of the Mandrake The Magician comic strip, a project that we’re hearing is in very early days at Warner Bros with Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen angling to direct (he made his helming debut with Get Hard). There is no script for this, and very few deals are made, we’re told. But any new potential project with Baron Cohen is an eye-opener — even after his last effort The Brothers Grimsby failed to move the needle for Sony. He’s currently on the big screen in Disney’s Alice Through The Looking Glass. Mandrake was a syndicated newspaper comic strip created by Lee Falk that was first published in 1934 and centered on an illusionist who used his powers to defeat the bad guys. The Tracking Board got wind of this first today.
